I based this deck on a deck called 'Consuming Blight' I saw on blackborder a while back, and threw some zendikar stuff in. The Bloodchief Ascension is really powerful when this deck gets going. The sideboard's a work in progress, so any comments would help.

Ditch the ascension cards, that will rarely happen.
Yeah, I think I'm gonna cut Pyromancer, but Bloodchief has been really good so far.
In my opinion i would replace the ascension with a sorin markov considering he does the same thing as the blood chief but can do it every turn
I did think about Sorin for a while, but in my opinion, Bloodchief is better because the deck has a lot of discard, and that triggers the ascension whenever they discard. A fully charged ascension makes blightning hit them for 7 and gives me 4 life. If I have both out, one blightning hits them for 11 and I gain 8 life.
Glad you liked my deck post, and I'm liking the looks of this current build!
Pyromancer Ascension can go, but if Bloodchief gets online fast enough it'll win games all by itself when your opponent is trying to play anything that doesn't stay on the board.
Yeah, I was really impressed with your deck and wanted to see what I could do with it. I recently took out pyromancer cause it wasn't doing anything. Hopefully I can get my hands on some Dragonskulls and get my sideboard built.
The main problem I had with the deck was the fact that the mana curve always seemed a little clunky, and against some decks Duress really doesn't do anything useful. Akoum Refuge is a good idea for mana fixing as well, and a whole lot cheaper than the summit's.
Let us know how this deck performs for you though, I think it still has some potential.
Guul Draz aren't working too well, I'm gonna see how Megrims do instead in the next FNM I play in.
How many FNM's have you gone to with this deck? And how're you doing in them?
I usually work on fridays, so I've only played it in three so far. It's gone 3-3, 4-2, and 3-2. I should note that I'm not the best player, and I'm sure other players could do better with the deck. Overall, I'm still pretty happy with it, lots of fun to play.
No Burning Inquiry to combo with Megrim? Can't beat a R for 6 damages.
How on earth did I forget Terminates and Blightning's in my discard deck...
You're at least breaking even at FNM, which is definitely a good benchmark.
I'd consider adding in a third, if not fourth Bloodchief Ascension, which does crazy things all on it's own if active. A 1 or 2 of Sorin Markov is also pretty crazy, because you can burst off critters while gaining life, and your opponent pretty much has to deal with him unless they can Alpha strike you next turn. Consider replacing at least 1 Liliana with the mad Russian.
Burning Inquiry is definitely brutal with a Megrim on the field, although I don't know what I'd take out for it.
Recently updated the deck a bit...
I took out the Bloodchief Ascensions because they weren't really doing anything; by the time I would get them out there, my opponent would already be topdecking and playing anything they drew to avoid the pain from discaring. Also, took out Bituminous Blast (for now) because they're just too expensive, the deck has a very low mana curve as it is. Added Bloodhusk Ritualist and Slavering Nulls; the Bloodhusks are fantastic for mass discard and will probably stay in the deck, and the Slavering Nulls are great for 4 damage on turn 3 thanks to him and Megrim. however, they only seem to be good early game, so we'll se how they do with more play.
If it helps any, the way Bloodchief Ascension reads, if your opponents play a nonpermanent spell it still does the 2 life. It doesn't have to be a discarded card, also Bloodchief Ascension stacks.
I've still been thinking of this deck, and I think Quest for the Nihil Stone would fit in perfectly in place of either Megrim or the once used Bloodchief Ascension. With all the discard getting it active isn't a problem, and puts your opponent into a Catch 22 situation.
Do they play out the card and lose 5? Or do they hold onto it and pray you don't have some form of discard?
Also, not sure about keeping Duress in the main. Maybe some split of Duress and Mire's Toll. Early on Mire's Toll is a simple Raven's Crime, but late in the game is a great tool for messing with your opponent's hand.
Lastly, somewhere in the main or in the SB I'd add in Scepter of Fugue. Seems like that thing has been largely forgotten, and with Jace giving birth to some much more effective control decks might be the perfect tech needed.
