I am the current National Champion of the Netherlands and made top 8 at GP Brighton, going 15-0 in the Swiss. I also made the Team top4 at Worlds 2009 as captain of the Dutch national team. In short, 2009 has been my breakout year. The 2010 season should be about taking the next step. With devotion and some luck I should be able to make level 6 for next year, which is my main goal.
I don't have a lot of players in my region, so I play mostly on Magic Online. I really like to play M10draft and Extended. I feel that if you evaluate the cards correctly in these formats, it is very hard to lose. I won two PTQ's being the only player in the room playing that deck. The first one was AggroLoam and then a Deathcloud deck.
I love playing off-beat decks and giving them my own twist. I won Nationals with a 62-card deck featuring 10 one-of's, eschewing more traditional builds. If I know my rogue deck can compete, I would always choose it over well-known decks because your opponent will make more mistakes when facing a rogue deck. The way I like my matches to play out looks something like this: My deck choice usually means that my opponents will not be able to interact with me on their own terms. They will have creature removal against a combo deck, I will play Blood Moon to mess with their mana base or you can find me playing Chalice of the Void to prevent my opponent from playing his two-drops.
As a person, you will find that I am pretty unstructured. Sometimes my play will not be very thought through, but it does mean that I dare to rely on my intuition. As a future psychologist, this has helped me to understand people's plays better than I have before. I am never surprised by what an opponent is throwing against me in a match. All the cards are just obstacles on the way to another victory!
